Crisis Intervention & Advocacy  

United Family Services provides services to victims of violent crime (homicide, rape, sexual assault, armed robbery, kidnapping, assault and battery, etc.) who live, work or were victimized in Charlotte-Mecklenburg. If you have been the victim of a violent crime, you may find it helpful to have someone to talk with who understands what crime victims experience. You may feel that you are going crazy or have lost control of your life. We can help. We can also provide you with information which will assist you in coping with your feelings as well as with the criminal justice system. Our services are confidential and available to all victims regardless of when the crime occurred or if it has been reported.

We provide:
Professional Counseling for:
survivors of child sexual abuse, rape, homicide and other violent crimes
individuals, family members and friends of crime victims
children and adults affected by crime
     
Support Groups for:
survivors of sexual abuse, rape and homicide
     
Educational Programs for:
schools focusing on prevention of violence crimes
religious organizations, businesses and civic groups
     
Application Assistance with:
NC Crime Victim Compensation to help with medical bills, funeral expenses, lost wages, domestic violence household support loss and crime scene cleanup
     
Assistance and Advocacy with:
Criminal justice system
Hospitals
Community resources

Information for Crime Victims
If you need information about an individual who is currently in jail or serving a prison sentence or would like to be notified when the person has a change of status, is moved to a different facility or is scheduled for release:

For inmates incarcerated in a Mecklenburg County facility, call VINE (Victim Information & Notifications Everyday) at 1.800.247.9658. For inmates in a North Carolina state facility, call SAVAN (Statewide Automated Victim Assistance and Notification) at 1.877.627.2826. Both numbers provide free, anonymous computer telephone service for information on offender status.
